Growatt Off-Grid Inverter FAQ: What I Checked Before Ordering Solar and EV Charging

I did not plan on spending my evenings reading Growatt spec sheets. That changed in 2025 when our company started pricing a small off-grid supply shed and two electric work vans. I manage purchasing here and report to both operations and finance, so this one request had more blind spots than any office supply order I had handled before. With off-grid power, total DC watts are only useful if the inverter MPPT range can accept the wired configuration of your panels.   • PV input voltage: check the maximum open-circuit voltage, and remember that cold panels raise voltage.
  • MPPT operating range: the array must stay inside the usable range, not just at 25 degrees C lab temperature.
  • Continuous and surge watts: both matter, and surge is often much higher than the running load.
  • EV charger load: include it in the load calculation instead of a separate optimistic note.
  • AC input function: confirm whether the model can charge from generator or grid and how that input is wired.
  • Permits and utility rules: off-grid can still be inspected. Verify before ordering.
  • Warranty service time: a lower price does not help if a replacement part takes six weeks. Ask where the nearest service point is.

This list looks long, but it takes about ten minutes to run through with the spec sheet next to the quote. I still do it on every order. Five minutes of verification beats five days of correction, and in my role I have to explain the correction to somebody.
