Growatt Inverter Models: A 6-Step Buying Checklist for Installers and Distributors

This checklist is for distributors, installers, and solar professionals who need to quote or specify Growatt equipment without getting burned by hidden costs. I'm a procurement manager at a 30-person distribution company, and I've managed our inverter and storage budget—a low-seven-figure annual spend—for seven years. The most frustrating part of comparing quotes: no two bids include the same line items. So here are six steps, in the order I'd actually run them.

Step 1: Map the load before you pick a model

The first mistake is starting with a brand name instead of a load profile. A client who says “10kW inverter” often means 10kW of solar panels, not 10kW of continuous AC output. Those are different numbers. On the sunny side, a 10kW array may produce 8kW AC. If your client has a 10kW load plus overnight usage, you're talking about a hybrid or off-grid system with battery backup, not a grid-tie unit.

Growatt inverter models fall into practical buckets: grid-tie residential, hybrid with battery backup, three-phase commercial, and off-grid. You don't need every SKU memorized. You need to know which family fits the application, then confirm with the spec sheet.

Here is what to ask your contractor or account:

  • Are you licensed in this jurisdiction and have you installed this specific Growatt model before?
  • Will the installation satisfy NEC Article 690 rapid shutdown requirements? Local amendments vary.
  • Who registers the inverter for the Growatt warranty—you or the homeowner?
  • Is the monitoring dongle connected and configured before leaving the site?

I keep this in a solar inverter checklist because most solar customers with an EV will want a charger after the inverter goes in. It also means the load calculation should include the charger, not just the inverter.

Step 6: Build a configuration checklist for every order

After seven years of tracking orders in our procurement system, I can tell you most delays are missing accessories, not missing inverters. If one is missing, the order waits.
